Baseball: Osakis stays perfect in Prairie play

Logan Hartshorn

The Osakis baseball team has proven to be the class of the Prairie Conference this year through eight games.

The Silverstreaks (11-3) are now 8-0 in those contests after sweeping a doubleheader in two five-inning wins against Upsala-Swanville Area (4-10, 2-8 Prairie) on Wednesday. They won game two 12-1 after an 11-0 win in game one.

“I am proud of the guys for taking care of business,” Osakis head coach Shad Schmidt said. “We played really good defensively and only had one error between the two games.”

Luke Staloch was part of that defense as he made a catch in deep left field that saved a run. Senior Reid DeWenter came on in relief on the mound in each game as Carter Rost got the win in game one and Hunter Infanger earned the win in game two.

“We worked out of some jams. Reid pitched really well for us in relief, even though we maybe didn’t pitch our best as a whole today,” Schmidt said. “Out bats were pretty good and (Logan) Hartshorn had a huge day with 7 RBIs. Isaac Froemming hit the team’s first home run and his first career home run today. Home runs are always fun to be a part of when they go your way.”

Hartshorn’s biggest game came in the opener as he went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and six RBIs. DeWenter led the offense in game two with a double and a single to go with three RBIs.

Infanger went 4 2/3 innings in the nightcap and allowed one unearned run, while striking out six. Rost allowed one hit and one walk in three innings pitched as he struck out four in game one.

“I feel confident in all of our guys,” Schmidt said. “Our sophomores are a talented group, but it’s nice to see our upperclassman produce. We now have to focus on Pierz and their talented team. As a section opponent, we want to play well and compete with the upper half teams.”

The Silverstreaks are at Pierz on Friday at 5 p.m. The Pioneers are 11-3 and 7-1 against section opponents.
