Here's a list of Osakis Festival events
The Osakis community will celebrate a half century of fun at this year's Osakis Festival.
There will be a tractor pulls, a petting zoo, food vendors, crafts, salad luncheon, bean bag tournament, street dance, a parade and more.
The 50th annual event will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24.
Saturday, June 23
Festivities begin with kids' activities at Park Osagi from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23. Children can get up close with animals provided by Erickson's Petting Zoo, burn off some energy at a bouncy house, go on a money hunt, play games and listen to music from a deejay.
Also on June 23, a new festival event — the Schmidt Pedal Pull — will start at 2:30 p.m. It's for boys and girls, ages 4 to 11. Trophies will be awarded for first and second place finishers.
Food vendors and craft sales are back and will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Osakis Women Association's salad luncheon starts at 11 a.m. at the Pollard Community Center with music by Fred Walters, followed by lunch at noon. Everyone is welcome to attend — it's not just for women, organizers note. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door. Drawings will be held for prizes from the vendors.
Pontoon rides will be offered by Let's Go Fishing.
A Bean Bag Tournament will start at 2 p.m. at the Osakis Liquor Store.
Rounding out the day's events will be a street dance by the Osakis Liquor Store from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. featuring the Cherry Gun Band.
Sunday, June 24
Activities begin in Park Osagi with the food vendors and craft sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The grand parade will take place at 1 p.m. A contest will honor the best decorated floats with prizes of $25, $50 and $75 in Chamber Bucks. This year's parade theme is "Osakis Past and Present."
Organizations, businesses, families and individuals are encouraged to be in the parade. There is no entry fee and you can throw candy. To enter, text or email Vicki Hinrichs, parade chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org for an entry form. You can also call her at 320-859-3751 or 320-760-4684 (cell).
The parade line-up and check in will take place in front of the Osakis Catholic Church at noon.
After the parade, water fights will entertain the crowd, featuring the Osakis Fire Department and other firefighters in the area.
From 3 to 6 p.m., the Osakis Presbyterian Church will host its annual Pie and Ice Cream Social. Everyone is invited to enjoy Sloppy Joes, chips, pickles and watermelon, along with many varieties of pies plus ice cream.
